According to the Michigan Constitution of 1963, “The Regents of the University of Michigan and their successors in office shall constitute a body corporate known as the Regents of the University of Michigan.” The constitution further notes the board shall have general supervision of the institution, will be composed of eight members elected to eight-year terms, and will select a president to be the principal executive officer of the institution and ex officio member of the board.
