How do I use the Search tool?
To locate information on a particular subject, use the search tool.
Type a word or phrase in the box, and press the Search button. The search
will return a topic list and/or an item list. To narrow your search, you can exclude words. For example, to search for entries that contain the word "athletic" but do not contain "intercollegiate," type "athletic -intercollegiate" (don't type quote marks) in the text box.
Each topic is composed of one or more specific items from the Proceedings.
When you click on an option from the topic list, you'll get the list
of items for that topic. Click on an item to view it in the digital
library, or use the listed volume and page number to locate the information
in a hard copy version of the Proceedings.
For example, if you want to know what Lee Bollinger said when he accepted
the nomination to be the presdient of the University of Michigan:
- Type "Bollinger" in the box and click the Search button.
You'll see a topic list with three choices and an item list with 17
choices. Note: Some of the items in the item list may be the same as
the items contained within the Bollinger, Lee C. topic.
- In the topic list, click on "Bollinger, Lee C." to view
a list of items that all pertain specificially to the former University
of Michigan president.
- Scroll down the list of items to the one called "Acceptance Speech."
Mr. Bollinger's presidential acceptance speech can be found on page
102 of the 1996 volume of the Proceedings.
- Click the link to "Acceptance Speech."
A new web browser window opens and displays page 102 of the 1996 volume
using the digital library.
