Rebecca McGowan
Regent McGowan, a Democrat from Ann Arbor, currently serves as Chair of the Board's Finance, Audit and Investment Committee. A graduate of Lake Forest College (Lake Forest, IL) (A.B. 1970; LL.D. honoris causa 1998), she served as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senators Adlai Stevenson and Frank Church and was a senior staff member in the White House to Vice President Walter F. Mondale from 1977–81. From 1981-84, she served as the deputy national campaign director for his candidacy for the presidency. Moving to Ann Arbor in 1985, she became the director of government relations for the Industrial Technology Institute. She has served on the board of Lake Forest College and on the boards of a variety of civic and charitable organizations. Regent McGowan is the mother of a teen-age daughter. She was elected to the Board of Regents in 1992 and re-elected in 2000. |
